French philosopher Brillat-Savarin wrote "Tell me what you eat, and I will tell you what you are." I say tell me what the candidates eats and I'll tell you how they will lead. My words may not make philosophical culinary history, but a brief examination of the dining habits of each candidate may be indicative of how he will run the country.
Does Barak Obama clean his plate? Does John McCain eat a well balanced meal? Does either candidate eat their vegetables? Is a simple, straightforward meal indicative of governance in kind? Will either man succumb to an overly rich cream sauce and lead the country into food coma?
A recent e-mail to both parties asking about what kinds of foods each candidate enjoys has not received any response. A quick Google search reveals that Obama is a Chili man with a recipe he has been making since college. McCain is a self proclaimed grill master who brags about his baby back ribs. Both candidates enjoy the true american favorite - pizza, although the preferred toppings are still a federal secret.
I give credit to Obama for using a recipe which uses more than 3 ingredients, however can we trust him to meet foreign dignitaries after a big bowl of stewed meat and beans? I can see the headline now "Presidential chili causes international stink."
As for McCain's ribs, sometimes simplicity is better, but how can we trust the maverick to cut pork from the national budget if it is his favorite main dish? I would like to see him barbecuing in the rose garden - it would make press conferences more interesting.
Either way I hope we have a delicious 4 years, and a candidate who doesn't leave a bad taste in your mouth. If you haven't registered to vote yet, there's no time like the present. And I'll see you next month at the voting booths.
Eat well!
